Capturing a Magical Childhood – I do not think I could have come up with a better way to describe this post.
“Childhood is the most beautiful of all life’s seasons.” -Author Unknown
Before my daughter was born, I “knew” that childhood was short and fleeting. While I was pregnant, I found myself being told often, “enjoy it, it goes by too fast!”, and I smiled and nodded, agreeing with whoever was imparting their wisdom on me at the time. But then it started to happen: my daughter was born, we were leaving the hospital, then a month went by, then two, and I was back at work, and then we were celebrating her 1st birthday, next she was growing out of bottles and pacifiers, and now, just like that, she’s almost 3. While I have taken an immense amount of photos of her, I’ve realized just how magical this time really is. To watch her trying new things, figuring out how a toy works, taking things apart and putting them back together, to watch her figure out this world she’s living in.
With that, when I take her out now to photograph her, I observe. She runs ahead of me, stopping to look at the water rushing by in the creek; asks the lady walking her dog if she can pet the “puppy like mine”. She stopped in the most perfect light during our session a few weeks ago and turned around quickly to make sure I was coming, “Momma, you coming?” she paused; with my “Yes!”, I asked her if I could see her twirl (she happily obliged!). She picked flowers for me – beautiful white flowers lined this lovely field we were in and she looked around in awe, telling me how pretty all of the flowers were. This time is truly special, and I want to remember all of the things about her that make it that way.
It’s honestly a gift to be able to stop time. To take a fleeting, magical moment and to be able to remember it forever.
